A few weeks back, I was on a coaching call and a client asked – what does your name mean?
I was happily taken aback, and I almost too eagerly replied 🙈 . I was excited to have a brief opportunity to share more about where I came from and what that meant to me.
I was reminded of the power of a name.

Most people know me as Beatrice. But over the years, I’ve been increasingly using my South Sudanese name, Mujo (hence my client’s curiosity).
The truth is, I wasn’t born in South Sudan, and I’ve lived in multiple other countries, so at times I have questioned whether I really belong.
Embracing my name, Mujo, which means gift in my native language, has helped me feel rooted and more confident in who I am when everything else in the world has felt insecure.
It’s also made me curious and more open to learning about other people’s names, stories, and histories.
What’s in a name for you?
